once senators have exhausted all of their time for questions in the impeachment trial of u.s. president donald trump, they will take up whether the senate should subpoena witnesses and seek additional documents from the administration that could be relevant to the impeachment inquiry.
depending on what has occurred up to that point, the debate could begin on thursday, january 30. that’s when u.s. secretary of state michael pompeo, who has been called a heat-seeking missile for the trump’s ass, is scheduled to visit kyiv.
trump and his personal lawyer rudy (rudolph) giuliani are accused of managing a months-long campaign to coerce ukrainian president volodymyr zelensky to announce bogus investigations to increase trump’s chances of being re-elected in 2020. pompeo, along with other top officials in the trump administration, was kept apprised of, if not directly involved in, the shenanigans. pompeo hasn’t admitted it yet and has so far failed to turn over documents to congress.
pompeo on january 22 said the united states is committed to supporting ukraine and stamping out corruption in the country. he denied that giuliani oversaw a shadow foreign policy in ukraine. he lied.
